BLACKWATER VALLEY FIT-UP 2019

Charolais

Written and Performed by: Noni Stapleton

Directed and Developed by: Bairbre Ní
Chaoimh

Age Suitability: 15+

Running Time: 70mins – no interval

A tale of love, longing and one woman’s intense rivalry with a Charolais heifer.

A surreal, black comedy, Charolais takes the age old story of female jealousy and gives it a new twist: the other woman is a cow, a literal one, a pure-bred Charolais heifer. Rarely in Irish theatre are the challenges of farming life and the joy of sex expressed so frankly.

Reviews

‘This hilarious take on rural life and love is a paradox: superficially crude, it’s full of wisdom and tenderness.’ – Sunday Independent

★★★★  ‘The last thing you would expect in an Irish rural drama is a parody of Edith Piaf. But Stapleton, is all Gallic sexiness…and conveying what an unsophisticated Irish girl might not otherwise be able to’ – Irish Examiner

★★★★  ‘A fast-paced, witty, and intensely emotional tale filled with laughter, loss and despair’ – Irish Times
