The Cat’s Mother is a dark comedy asking how far you are willing to go for your own family?

Two Irish sisters battle to decide the fate of their mother. Younger sister, Sinead, arrives on Friday evening all set for what Ciara thinks will be a weekend of respite from caring for their mother, Eileen. Unbeknownst to Ciara, Sinead has alternative ideas about how the weekend will go. Over the long weekend, Ciara is forced to make a choice that will affect their lives forever. She seeks guidance from a variety of other characters often gaining hilarious insight – but does it help her reach their final decision? Oh, and there’s also the small matter of the family cat…

Cast

Erica Murray is originally from County Limerick, Ireland. She holds an MFA in Playwriting from the Lir Academy, Trinity College Dublin. She was a member of the Soho Young Writer’s Group and the New Playwright’s Programme at The Lyric Theatre, Belfast where she developed All Mod Cons. This year she is one of the recipients of the Channel Four Playwright’s Bursary Scheme Award supported by The Peggy Ramsay Foundation. Her first play The Cat’s Mother was long-listed for the Verity Bargate Award, it premiered in 2018 and toured to Underbelly at the Edinburgh Fringe and the Dublin Fringe Festival where it won the Fishamble Award for Best New Writing.
