A celebration of humour, resilience and endearing innocence.

The Palace Players bring their All-Ireland winning play ‘The Quiet Land’ from the pen of Malachy McKenny, back to the stage with performances in Whiddy Island, Beare Island and Ballydehob as part of the West Cork Fit-Up Festival 2018. Directed by Danny Buckley, ’The Quiet Land’ features Sean Ahern and Liam Howard as Nashee and Eamonn respectively, two elderly farmers who meet at a clearing on the hillside between their homes.

With a wonderful blend of humour and pathos, ‘The Quiet Land’ is a celebration of humour, resilience and endearing innocence of an exiled generation as it struggles to survive in the isolated rural Ireland of today. It’s a real test of their friendship and is the author’s heartfelt tribute to a rare breed of forgotten men who live ‘a long way in off the road’.

The Palace Players took top honours with the play at the All-Ireland finals in Letterkenny in early December last year, beating off stiff opposition from the top groups in the country and in the process, won numerous awards along the way.
