‘You never know what’s around the corner, Sticks and stones didn’t break Her bones, but words and pointing crushed Her. Is Beauty really only skin deep? Does Ugliness hide somewhere deeper? Following the runaway international success of Forgotten and Silent, Fishamble presents Pat Kinevane’s third solo play, Underneath, directed by Jim Culleton. This stunning new play is a blackly comic, rich and vivid tale of a life lived in secret, a testament to the people who live on the fringes, under the nose of everyday life. It explores the surface, and what lies underneath.

‘impressive performance…bold and unafraid of going where others have only dared to look…chameleonic trademark style…Kinevane balances out the deep questions this play interrogates with tongue-in-cheek humour, greatly supported by the built-in visual contrasts in the black and golden setting, costumes and make-up, and seamlessly directed by the artistic director of Fishamble, Jim Culleton’ 5 pointed star5 pointed star5 pointed star5 pointed star The Public Reviews

‘brought to life by the actor and director Jim Culleton and forged together into one entertaining evening, that had the audience on their feet by the end of the performance…Kinevane’s performance [is] both dramatic and comic, intense and easy going, but always likable and compassionate’ The Red Curtain Review
